Carafate is not used for the treatment of acid reflux. It is used for the treatment and prevention of ulcers in the stomach as well as the intestines. It works by coating the ulcer to protect it from further complications. This will allow the ulcer to heal at a faster rate than not taking any type of medication or seeking professional help.
