Fight A Viral Infection

A viral infection is different than a bacterial infection in several ways. For one, a virus does not respond well to treatment with antibiotics. Many times viruses are left to run their course while the symptoms are treated as best they can be.

Instructions

1. Strengthen your body's infection-fighting mechanisms. Extra vitamin C, supplements and a good diet are all important. Adequate amounts of rest are also a necessity.

2. Add extra fluids to your diet. Water is a must. It flushes away toxins and keeps the body hydrated. A fever will burn off water in the system, so it's a must to replenish the supply frequently. Fruit juices can be added for a change of pace as long as their sugar content is minimal.

3. Take olive leaf extract capsules. Antibiotics are usually more effective for bacterial infections and do little to help rid the body of a virus. There are other herbs out there, such as goldenseal and echinacea, that will also help to fight off infection.

4. Get lots of rest. Eight to 10 hours is best when fighting a virus. Even if you can't sleep, lay down and try and stay relaxed. The more active you are while your resistance is down, the longer it will take you to recover. Take the day off work if you have to.

5. Allow a fever to run its course. This may actually reduce the amount of time you spend being sick. The higher the body temperature, the less likely the virus is to survive for long periods of time. Fevers that go higher than 101 or 102 degrees F should be reported to your physician.
