Feng Shui decorating uses colors from nature to balance the inside of your home.

Feng shui is the ancient art of balancing chi, or energy, in your home. It incorporates many aspects of your home, including color, to generate the most harmonic life for you and your family. Part of making your home healthy is selecting the right colors for your walls. This may seem like a difficult task, but it becomes easier when you know what kind of mood you want to evoke in each room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose colors that will balance the energy of the room. You don’t want your room to be dominated by a single color or it will feel stifling. For example, too many earth tones can make a room feel too heavy. A nice way to balance earth tones is to go with colors that are light and airy. Earthy browns should be paired with blues of the sky and water. Light hues of blue or gray will brighten an area and revitalize it. They also encourage feelings of exploration and adventure.

2. Choose soothing colors for the right rooms. Shades of gray and black are soothing, invite rest and calm feelings but if they exist within your decor, you may want something a little different on your walls.

3. Suit your moods. Hues of red place energy into a room and colors that enhance this energy are yellows and gold colors. You may not want to use a bold red color on your bedroom walls unless you want to keep the room filled with energy at all times. A better choice for a bedroom would be a soothing shade of blue.

4. Promote physical and mental healing with shades of purple and lavender. These colors also generate a quiet and spiritual peace. This color is a nice option for bedrooms, reading rooms or rooms where visiting takes place.

5. Choose white for confidence and purity. White may seem like a bland color, but in feng shui, it represents a calm atmosphere, especially when used with gold and silver, according to The Spiritual Feng Shui website.

6. Choose blue for energy. Blue walls with black decor create a nice energy in the room, according to Home and Garden Television.

7. Encourage healing and creativity with shades of green. Turquoise, a combination of blue and green, is a good choice for rooms where there is quite a bit of movement going on, such as kitchens and entertaining rooms.

8. Increase a room’s energy with yellow, which can brings a sense of hope and stability.
