Migraines that include visual symptoms are also called migraines with aura. These types of headaches can be severe and last for several hours to a day. Your migraines may develop with no warning, or you might have early symptoms such as nausea or dizziness before the full effects begin. According to the National Library of Medicine and the Mayo Clinic, visual migraine symptoms include pain and hallucinations.
Blind Spots
Blind spots are areas in your field of vision that you cannot see anything. These can occur during a migraine with aura if you otherwise have normal vision.
Blurriness
You may experience blurry or double vision while you are having a migraine, and these symptoms can start before pain begins and last for the duration of the migraine.
Eye Pain
Pain around your eyes as well as within your eyes can be intense during a migraine and may linger even after your other symptoms have gone away.
Flashing
You may see unusual flashing in your vision, which can seem as if you were standing by a strobe light and can be distracting to your eyes.
Hallucinations
During a migraine with aura, you may experience hallucinations of all types, including floating objects, objects that look bigger or smaller than normal or have unusual colors.
Sensitivity
Sensitivity to bright sunshine or certain colors are visual symptoms of a migraine that can be reduced by wearing sunglasses outdoors or laying down in a darkened room.
