Remicade Infusion Side Effects

Remicade infusions or chemotherapy is for patients that live with rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, plaque psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis and Crohn's disease. Patients can endure mild to severe side effects.

Function

Remicade treatments are administered to patients that are not responding well to other treatments including steroids. Remicade affects your immune system.

Infusion Reaction

A patient may undergo side effects during a treatment infusion including headache, skin rash, fever, gastrointestinal symptoms, chills and rarely, anaphylaxis. A trained nurse will give you an antihistamine and acetaminophen dose, and then monitors you constantly during the entire treatment period.

Liver Injury

Remicade can cause damage to the liver. A patient in danger may have dark brown-colored urine, pain in the right abdomen, severe, fatigue and fever.

Infection

A Remicade patient must watch for any sign of infection including respiratory, urinary, abscesses, skin ulcerations, sepsis and bacterial infections. Serious infections have developed in Remicade patients including pneumonia and tuberculosis.

Cancer

A patient that is undergoing Remicade treatments is at a higher risk for developing cancers. The aggressive hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma is a rare and fatal cancer that can be a side effect of Remicade infusions.

Significance

It is important for you to be aware of any side effects that can result from Remicade infusion treatments. You must weigh the severity of the disease requiring treatment, the chance of survival as the disease progresses and the possibility of side effects from Remicade.
