Balance Vitamins And Minerals On The Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet has become a household name in the past few years. This diet eliminates carbohydrates, often cutting caloric intake and weight gain quickly. It is quite popular with celebrities and the average Joe or Jane, as well. However, many find that the Atkins Diet results in rapid weight gain if one happens to consume carbohydrates after a long spell of avoiding them. Learn balance vitamins and minerals properly on the Atkins Diet in order to avoid the unhealthy "yo yo" diet so many have become accustomed to.

Instructions

1. Study up on the Atkins Diet. Learn which foods you can consume during which phases. Many people believe that the Atkins Diet encourages a high-fat diet, but this isn't the truth. The Atkins Diet pushes dieters to lower their intake of high glycemic index foods, such as heavy potatoes, pasta, and sweet drinks.

2. Understand which saturated fats you can eat and which contain too much trans-fat to be healthy. The Atkins Diet allows dieters to consume lean meats such as chicken and lean ground beef, as well as bacon and other red meats. However, this should only be done in moderation. Avoiding carbs does not give you the freedom to pile on the bacon and eggs.

3. Eat your approved vegetables. Veggies like asparagus, spinach, and green beans are fantastic choices when on the Atkins Diet. Dark, leafy green vegetables are packed full of vitamins and minerals, so you can breathe easy when consuming them.

4. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day and take a multivitamin. During the first few phases of the Atkins Diet, your body may be depleted of essential minerals found in fats and carbohydrates. To ensure you have a balanced diet, always take a multivitamin.

5. Consume lean meats for protein, but don't overdo it. If you only eat lean protein, you may end up with protein toxicity. The key is balance.

6. Eat beans, nuts, and popcorn for their rich fiber content. Not only do these foods taste good, they're great for you. Make a two-egg scramble with spinach and half an avocado for a nutrient-packed breakfast or snack.
