Spa Decorating Ideas

The ultimate decoration...a deck for your spa!

Spas are popular additions to any home. Relaxing and attractive, they are often installed on private decks and patios in a homeowner's backyard. They can look awkward, however, if simply plunked down in the middle of a patio, deck or bare area without any attempt made to blend the spa into the landscape. Decorate your spa so that it compliments, not clashes, with your yard.

Plants

Decorating your spa with plants is a great way to add to that soothing, tropical feel. Try placing potted palms or other potted plants around your spa. Alternately, plant slow-growing trees or fragrant bushes, such as jasmine, around your spa. If your spa abuts a wall, hang shelves on the wall and place plants on the shelves. Trailing vines will cover any ugly outdoor wall and add to the ambiance of a spa. Just make sure the vines are kept pruned so that they don't touch the water or drop leaves into the spa.

Privacy

Another way to decorate your spa and make it more romantic is to create privacy. This can be done by placing a decorative screen next to your spa or building a wooden fence or arbor. If you build an arbor, consider hanging a string of lights from it. Build a bench into the arbor or place one nearby to store towels and provide extra seating for guests who might want to converse without getting into the spa.

Candles

Candles are a fun, simple way to decorate a spa. Floating candles create a romantic feel (just make sure the jets aren't on). Alternately, try lining the edges of the spa with votive candles. Be careful that you don't get burned, and leave a space candle-free for exiting and entering the spa.

Deck

If you are handy, or you know someone who is, consider decorating your spa by building a deck around it. This will give your spa a custom, built-in look and make it easy to enter and exit the spa. Place an outdoor fireplace on the deck near the spa and you can dry off by the fire after you exit the water.
