Herbs That Stop Pain

If you have to deal with chronic pain, you understand only too well what an ongoing trial it is. There are many ways to try to deal with this challenge. One of them is by means of herbal remedies, a number of which have been shown to be effective for long-term pain management.


Vervain


Vervain (Verbena officinalis) is a bushy perennial plant that is native to North America. It has been used medicinally for centuries though has become less popular in more modern times. The leaves of the plant are used for their many properties which include benefits as a therapeutic analgesic; this means it can relieve minor pain. The suggested dosage of blue Vervain is 2-3ml, three times each day. Vervain should not be used during pregnancy or while breast feeding.


Turmeric


Turmeric (Curcuma longa), is a flowering plant that is native to Asia and has been introduced to the United States. The active constituent is curcumin which has very good anti-inflammatory properties and is beneficial for treating joint pain form arthritis and rheumatism. The suggested daily dose is 400-600mg.


Black Cohosh


Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) is a perennial herb that grows throughout the eastern United States. It has been used in herbal medicine for centuries by Native Americans. Black cohosh is often recommended for arthritis pain relief. It is also recommended for muscular pain though is ineffective for spinal pain. The suggested dose is 20mg twice each day.


Juniper








Juniper (Juniperus) are coniferous plants in the Cyprus family. They grow throughout the world and produce small purple berries. It is the berries that are used for medicinal purposes. Juniper can be used to treat chronic pain from osteoarthritis and rheumatism to nerve pain. You can easily make juniper tea by pouring one cup of boiling water over one tablespoon of the berries and allowing to steep for twenty minutes. The suggested dose is one cup twice daily.


Angelica


Angelica is a species of perennial herb that is native to Europe and North America. It contains phytochemicals that have been shown to be effective for minor pain relief. The active ingredients are extracted from the root of the plant and Korean Angelica seems to be a particularly effective variety. The suggested dose is 250mg twice daily.
