A toothache is one of the most agonizing and painful aches that the human body experiences. It can be caused by an open cavity in which the nerve is exposed, a blister that appears on the gums or even an infection.
Cloves
Clove helps kill the bacteria present in the mouth. Clove oil on a cotton ball placed on the infected tooth can give immediate relief.
Asafoetida and Lemon
A mixture of asafoetida and lemon is very effective. This extract is boiled for a few minutes, cooled and then applied onto a cotton ball. This can be kept on the aching tooth.
Ice Pack
A severe toothache usually leads to a swelling on the face. Using an ice pack over the cheek helps to reduce the swelling.
Satl Water Rinse
Combine warm water with a small amount of table salt. Stir until the salt dissolves. Swish the saltwater in your mouth and around the affected area. The salt can help dry up the infection while the warmth of the water soothes the pain temporarily.
Medication
Acetaminophen, if taken in proper dosages, helps reduce pain. Ibuprofen, too, gives relief to the toothache and swelling. If the area becomes infected, antibiotics may be needed.
Extraction
If your tooth is still bothering you, you should make a dental appointment. Sometimes having the tooth removed is the only way to bring about long-lasting relief.
