What Do To Help Fight Cancer

There are many things that people can do to help fight cancer.

Cancer causes about 13% of all human deaths. Cancers are caused by genetic anomalies in cells, which cause the cells to grow out of control in the form of a tumor. Although there are genetic components to cancer, environmental carcinogens cause mutations which trigger cancer growth in cells. Among the known carcinogens are compounds in cigarette smoke, certain industrial chemicals, and ultraviolet rays from the sun.

Become a Cancer Researcher

One way to help fight cancer is to become a cancer researcher. There are a number of careers, ranging from becoming a doctor to working as a laboratory assistant in a lab specializing in cancer research. By taking a hands-on approach, you gain botha lucrative career path and the satisfaction of working toward helping cure one of the world's most deadly diseases.

Work in Cancer Risk Abatement

There are a number of careers where you can have a positive impact in cancer risk abatement. For example, counselors can often help people reduce or quit smoking. There are a number of smoking cessation programs globally. Working with organizations that try to minimize carcinogenic industrial output can also be a very satisfying career. Educating people about various cancer risks, whether as an adjunct to a different career or, if you can find your niche, a primary career, is also very important.

If you can, a great way to help work with cancer abatement is as a volunteer at an organization such as the American Cancer Society.

Financial Help

Much cancer research is done using private donations. Although any non-profit cancer-research society would benefit from your generosity, common charities include the American Cancer Society, the Wood Hudson Cancer Research Foundation, or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Funds given to these organizations help of a wide range of studies. Some organizations directly research cancer cures, while others may look into the causes of cancer. Some organizations specifically study a particular form of cancer; others are more general in their research.
