What Colors Do You Paint A Sunroom

What Colors Do You Paint a Sunroom?

A sunroom can have many different purposes, ranging from a dining room to a spare bedroom. Many homeowners choose to build these additions because they not only add value to a residence, but also allow enjoyment of the outdoors almost any time of year. When it comes to wall color, the choice largely depends on the room's design, furnishings, intended purpose and individual taste.

Light Tones

Light tones work well in a sunroom because they open up the space and allow lots of natural light in. According to DIY Home Advice website, choosing a light color for your sunroom walls will help it feel bigger while increasing the energy efficiency of the space. Good choices are neutral shades of white, off-white, cream, beige or tan. A sunroom also looks good painted pale tones of yellow, pink, blue or gray, or paint the room with a white paint that has a very light purple or pink tint to it. Paint ceilings a bright white color and concrete floors a shade of gray or brown.

Dark Tones

Paint your sunroom a dark tone, such as navy blue or forest green, which works if the room itself is already large and very open. Navy blue is a good choice for a sunroom that has a nautical theme while a dark green color complements tropical decor. Decorate Designs website recommends sticking with colors that are all the same brightness if more than one shade is used. It also suggests painting one wall in the room a dark color and leaving the other walls a light color to add visual interest to a sunroom. The color of the accent wall depends on the colors of the furnishings and accessories.

Wallpaper

You may want to add a wallpaper border to your sunroom. Choose a pattern with shades of taupe, brown, gray or pale blue, and paint the walls one of these colors. Or cover your walls entirely with wallpaper. The design you choose should keep with the main purpose of your room. The print should be simple with a color palette consisting of one or two basic colors to keep the colors from becoming distracting.

Accessores

The right accessories can show off the walls of your sunroom in style. Choose a simple wall hanging or picture to add to one section, or place candle sconces or mirrors in the area. If you choose to paint your walls white, add a picture frame in a brightly painted color, such as dark blue, green or red. Another idea is to hang a quilt or afghan from a hook, and add matching throw pillows to a sofa or love seat in the room.
