Troubleshoot My KitchenAid Superba Ice Maker
One of the features that attracts some to KitchenAid Superba refrigerators is the refrigerator's ice maker. The ice maker produces ice that can be dispersed through a chute in cubed or crushed form. While a KitchenAid Superba ice maker offers more options than emptying an ice cube tray by hand, this is only true if the ice maker is functioning. If the icemaker isn't working properly, KitchenAid recommends that Superba owners do a few simple troubleshooting steps before calling a repair service.
Instructions
1. Push the freezer door to make sure that it is completely closed. The ice maker does not disperse ice unless the freezer door is fully shut.
2. Wait at least 24 hours after the refrigerator is installed for it to produce ice. Wait at least 72 hours for the ice maker storage bin to fill with ice after the installation of the Superba refrigerator.
3. Open the refrigerator and place a plastic utensil inside the delivery chute to clear any ice that has lodged in the chute. Ice that lodges in the chute can cause a blockage that does not allow either cubes or crushed ice to go through the chute.
4. Do not put store-bought or ice cube tray ice into the ice bin. Putting store-bought ice or ice made from ice trays into your bin can make it difficult for the ice maker to be able to dispense its ice because of the difference in size and shape of the different ice cubes.
5. Empty the ice container if the ice has melted and then re-frozen around the auger inside the ice maker. Add warm water to the bucket to fully melt the ice from around the auger, then insert the ice maker back into place. A frozen auger does not allow the ice maker to process the ice properly.
