Air Filter Panel Cover on Bryant Gas Furnace?
Bought the house recently. And have noticed there is no sort of covering over where the side panel air filter goes. Please see image. Doesn't seem like it loses too much air out of here, but I assume putting a cover on this could make it more efficient? Do these usually come with covers? The galvanized duct in the picture is your cold air return. The filter is to catch particles before they enter the furnace and are returned to the living area. The furnace is pulling some air from the area where the furnace is located, which means it's not pulling as much from the living area. I would make up a cover from a piece of galvanized steel or other material and seal the opening. It does. of course, need to be removable to change filter. Thanks, I thought I might need a cover. I was also wondering about which way the filter should go in too. So in the picture the air is traveling left to right through the filter - right? Sometimes the sheet metal is formed into a slot so that the sheet metal cover that ought to go in there can be slid into place. Other times there is an S cleat that allows a sheet metal cover to be pushed into place in the cleat, sealing the opening. Which do you have? jughead47 Thanks, I thought I might need a cover.
