Blower Motor Bearings Gone Bad

Can the bearings in a GE 5KCP39GG motor be replaced or do I need to buy a new motor? Either way, it's going to be much less expensive as I'm doing it myself, but if I can get by with only replacing the bearings it would be even cheaper. It was enough trouble pulling the squirrel cage, fan and motor from the air handler. I'm not going to mess around with disassembling the motor if I can't replace the bearings. Thanks in advance. William If you can find bearings, sure they can be replaced. Personally I would not mess with that when a universal motor is going to be less than $100..... Depending on the motor an OEM replacement (installed) from the company I work for would be up to $900. By doing DIY..... you can save a lot of $. I would just replace the whole motor then you dont have to worry about something else in the motor failing. Replace the capacitor along with the new motor! Or even if you only do the bearings! If replacing the whole motor make sure you get a capacitor sized properly for the replacement motor. I appreciate the response. I agree, if I can find a motor for under/around $100.00 I won't mess with looking for and replacing the bearings. I have looked for motors using the number I previously posted and can't find anything as inexpensive as you indicated. When you say universal motor, are you allowed to direct me to what will work based on the number I gave you? There are a few numbers on the motor. I want to be sure to buy the correct one. I can post a picture if it will help (assuming I figure out post a picture). Here's my motor. It wasn't a bearing that went bad, it was a plastic (for lack for an accurate descrption) spacer that was broken. It didn't take much to disassemble the motor. When I took it apart a plastic spacer at one end of the shaft was broken. http://airhandlerwilliam.shutterfly.com/pictures/10 In case no one gets back to you... You could take that to a Grainger or any HVAC shop and they'll probably be able to match it up and sell you a cap for it. Have you taken the fan off yet? Be careful and don't lose any of the little clip on balancing weights off the vanes. what you will need to do (as Vic said) is take it with you to a motor shop or a hvac shop. The main specs you need off that motor are: 1/3 HP 208/230VAC 2.4A CW Rotation SE 950 RPM 2 spd Thanks for the responses. I think I'm good to go for now. I actually found something at ACE similar in dimensions to the piece that was broken (again, plastic and looked similar to a washer, but not a washer). I suppose it was there to hold grease in a cavity at the end of the shaft. The piece I found at ACE was a little too wide, so I dimensioned it against the still intact piece on the motor, ground it down with a grinding wheel and it fit perfectly. So far so good. No vibration or unusual noise. Total out-of-pocket $1.10. well, it must not have been a bearing! No clue what you're talking about. Do you have a pic of this piece? Maybe post a link to the product page on the ACE website? I just had my blower wheel replaced and the vibration did not go away. Only other thing it could be is the motor or mount(s).
