Ge Electric Roaster Instructions

The General Electric roaster oven frees up your main oven when you cook roasts and also cooks foods without heating up your kitchen. The roaster can cook anything from a turkey to soups and chili for a large gathering. With a removable rack and liner, cleanup of the electric roaster takes only a few minutes. The roaster can be used on the tabletop, countertop or any surface that is level and close to an electrical outlet.

Instructions

Before the First Use

1. Remove the GE electric roaster from the packaging. Ensure that all components listed on the box are included.

2. Wash the interior cooking well, the rack and the lid of the roaster in hot, soapy water and rinse well.

3. Reassemble the roaster and place it on a level surface in a well-ventilated area, near an electrical outlet.

4. Plug the roaster into the outlet and turn the temperature dial to its highest setting. Allow the roaster to bake empty for 1 to 2 hours, which will burn off manufacturing oils and dust.

5. Wash the roaster cooking well, rack and lid a second time. The roaster is now ready to use.

Cooking in the Roaster

6. Place the roaster on a level surface and plug it into a nearby electrical outlet.

7. Turn the temperature dial to the oven setting specified in your recipe. For example, if you are roasting poultry or beef, you would set the temperature to 325 or 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

8. Allow the roaster to preheat for 15 minutes or until the indicator light goes out.

9. Open the lid and insert the meat rack if needed for your recipe. Add the food to be roasted or baked on top of the rack and close the lid.

10. Cook the food for the time specified in the recipe. For instance, if the recipe calls for 20 minutes per pound and you have a 4-pound roast, you would cook it for 80 minutes.

After Cooking

11. Turn the temperature dial to Off and unplug the roaster from the outlet.

12. Remove the lid and, using hot pads or oven mitts, lift the food from the interior of the roaster. If the food was cooked on the rack, lift the rack from the oven and transfer the food to a cutting board or platter.

13. Allow the roaster to cool and wash all removable parts in hot, soapy water. Wipe the outside of the roaster with a soapy sponge and then again with a clean sponge.

Tips Warnings

If you can do the first empty burn-off of the oven outdoors, you will avoid the smoke and odor inside.

Soups, chili and casseroles do not require the use of the roasting rack. Simply combine ingredients in the cooking well and cook according to the recipe instructions.
