Troy Bilt 020207 Pressure Washer won't start
Hi, I have a 5 year old Troy Bilt (model 020207) 2400 psi Pressure Washer with a Briggs and Stratton engine. click here to see model. It was leaking gas from the air filter last season and I never got around to fixing it. I tried to work on it today and added some new gas, I also gently tapped around the carb area as I read this may help. There is no leak now but it won't start. I sprayed some engine starter in the carb and it starts for a few seconds then shuts off. Maybe there is no gas getting to the engine? Anyhow, I removed the carb from the pw but really don't know what to do with it. It doesn't appear that it can be taken apart further. There is a hex bolt on the bottom of the carb which seems to hold on the bowl and I removed that bolt, but the bowl doesn't come off. Any suggestions? Also, if need be where can I buy a new carb for this thing? I searched the net for two hours and can't find any clues Thanks in advance, Vic The bowl just pulls off. You may need to twist a little to help break the seal. The carb just needs cleaning and possibly a kit I suspect. Thanks for the reply. I managed to get the bowl off, and I sprayed plenty of carb cleaner. Nothing appears to be stuck. I reassembled and it leaked fuel again for a few seconds until I moved the throttle control lever and then the leak stopped. Then the same thing, it runs for 3 seconds when I spray some starter fluid. Stumped.... I found an ebay site that sells the carb for 42.00. I hate to spend 42 bucks if it isn't a carb problem.. Does this sound like a carb problem and is there anything else you would try before ordering a new carb? You should be able to get a carb kit for $12 or so. It just needs to be cleaned in a soaking carb cleaning solution. Spray carb cleaner won't do it. Inside holes are varnished up. And the holes in the main jet (your bottom bolt) are clogged up, too. There is 1 big hole and probably 2 small pinholes further up. 1 may in the threads. Start by identifying the engine. Post the Model, Type and Code for Briggs and Stratton engines. You should find this fairly prominently displayed on the engine, but you may have to remove some of the plastic fairings and such to get at it. No dice. It will run for 3 seconds with spray starter but then quits..... Clues?? That's not the Briggs and Stratton Model, Type and Code number, which usually involve taking off the engine shroud to see. Is it a Briggs engine or another make? Sounds more like the model of the pressure washer rather than the engine. Using compressed air for cleaning is good, but you may not have got in all the jets and orifices, and unless you disassembled the carb enough the jet can remain plugged up from the carburetor cleaner if you didn't get compressed air in there to clean it properly. Try U-Tube and looks for videos on cleaning lawnmower carburetors, or Briggs carburetors. there are lots that will give you ideas on do the job.
