Treat Canine Eczema

Like humans, dogs are susceptible to getting eczema. Common symptoms of canine eczema include redness, irritation, extremely dry skin, formation of scabs or crusts, and small blisters. A dog may itch, lick, or bite the affected area. Whether eczema is caused by allergies or other irritants, getting a dog's itchy, inflamed skin under control is key.

Instructions

1. Feed your dog an all natural dog food, such as Natural Balance. If allergies are responsible for your dog's eczema, giving him an all natural based diet will eliminate any possibility for a reaction.

2. Give your dog a daily dose of omega 3 supplement. If your pup has trouble swallowing it, cut open the tablet and drizzle on your dog's food once daily. The fatty acids will dramatically improve your pup's flare ups and give him a soft, shiny coat.

3. Bathe your dog with a gentle shampoo, such as AvoDerm Natural Shampoo. Ingredients like oatmeal and avocado oil help to reduce inflammation. Limit the bathing to once a month, as excessive bathing can exasperate the condition.

4. See your vet if the condition worsens or does not heal on its own. A cortisone cream or Benadryl prescription may be prescribed to help with the irritation.

Tips Warnings

Keep your dog from scratching or licking any hot spots, as this can lead to hair loss and scarring.
